Dr. Catherine De Maeyer is a cardiologist and diving physician, with specific interest in the cardiovascular effects of diving. She is a recreational diver herself and is responsible for the treatment of diving accidents at the hyperbaric chamber of the University Hospital in Antwerp. She is president of the Medical Commission of Nelos and is a member of the EUBS.

Aging affects all organ systems, not only the cardiovascular and pneumological, but also the neurological system and the senses. The talk of dr. De Maeyer focusses on these effects in the aging technical diver, taking into account the effect on the body’s physiology and gas exchange and highlighting some possibly unexpected issues and precautionary measures. |
